Well there is nothing more that I am happy about than to be this close to the end. I do feel I have done my best work on the app thus far. The dashboard has been the one aspect I’ve been wanting to bring to reality.
To provide some back story, my original idea for this type of app started with the bulletin board. Why? Because I worked at a call center where my team was composed by a group of people that worked within a similar schedule range. We also worked in an office space where no desk belonged to anyone except supervisors and higher. So a big point of starting the day was coming in not knowing for sure if you would be able to sit where you did the day prior.
Everyone HATED having to sit somewhere “new.” Because nothing carried over. Your bookmarks and logins did not come with you, which was frustrating because you had to punch your time card digitally at that computer. My work around was to memorize the email client web address, and have a saved email with the relevant links.
Slight digression but just to add some additional context. One big point of frustration for me when I became a supervisor was not being able to communicate big policy changes to the whole team at the same time. The best I could do to mitigate this was send an email, but annoyingly not everyone would read the email.
This made me want a bulletin board that everyone saw. I would post on that bulletin board what new changes were made, and if you ignored it that was a YOU problem. Not mine, but everyone knew if you failed then you risked all of our bonuses.
I believe communication that’s easily accessible is imperative to having a team firing on all cylinders.
