I refer to this image when graphic design exhausts me mentally. Being the front end developer for this project, I have taken it upon myself to use my minor graphic design skills. Now keep in mind, I am mostly self taught. I use a youtube video here and there to either learn how to use a tool, function or a technique to achieve a specific aesthetic. So I still feel rough around the edges when creating a design from scratch.

So professor, who this post is primarily for, one of the bullet points of feedback you provided was noting the lack of branding. That was used to create a Jira task for my queue, and so I went to work determining how I wanted to integrate that.

First thought was we got to have a logo in the top bar navigation. The reference for that is microsoft.com. See here:

You can see there is a Microsoft logo on the top bar of their website. It is always visible, even if you go to a sub-sector of the site for a subsidiary brand like Xbox. See here:

That Microsoft logo is what I wanted first. No not the Microsoft branding itself, I want to make a Mosalinx logo just like that. So first I made a minimalist version of the logo.

From there I needed to add text. I came up with two versions. One where the full name “Mosalinx” is spelled out in full, separately; and one where the logo fills the “M” of the name.

Asked for feedback and the team agreed to use the name with the logo incorporated into the name. So that will be added to the top bar.

Now I start to think the settings page and edit profile pages need branding too. How would I accomplish that? Well no specific inspiration came to mind, I just thought why not have the logo in the background, enlarged and faded. So I created a ‘vertical’ logo where the whole name is under the logo just like the primary original logo that’s on the landing front page.

So that is going to set the stage for the settings and profile pages. I will be showing those off in the milestone meeting, so I don’t need to discuss that part further.

Now why do I bring up graphic language? Because there are always the TINIEST of details that drive me crazy. Specifically I could not get the squares of the “heart” to match the width of the legs. At least not without manually creating each individual square and I was just not going to put myself in a position to tear my hair out even further.

I mean, look at this:

You can see they don’t properly line up. Also look at that little divot that basically looks like an armpit. The legs should have flush joints protruding out and I just could not get them to cooperate. I’m also certain the two parallel squares on the heart to not completely line up side by side evenly either.

At the end of the day, I don’t think anyone is really going to notice except for me. And now probably you since you read this post.

Like I said, graphic design is my passion.
